A bloodline is an established "line" of dogs within a breed. It is the effort of a breeder to establish consistency in breeding and the continued passing of traits. A bloodline can be the name of the breeder such as the "Colby line", not all Colby's dogs were bred exactly alike and some distinction may be made. EXP: Colby dime dogs would be the linebred dogs off of Colby's Dime POR. A line is usually named after the base dog, the dog which is the foundation of that line. Such as Jeep. Crenshaw's CH Jeep ROM was a great dog in his day and excellent producer. Dogs bred off jeep are known as jeep dogs/jeep bloodline. New lines are established from other lines, dogs and combinations of lines. Such as the Chinaman line this is combination of Eli/Snooty bloodlines. Two bloodlines coming together in a cross created a dog known as Chinaman. Chinaman was then used as a foundation dog to created the Chinaman line. Now we have the Frisco line, the Frisco line is Chinaman was a Bolio out. It was created by breeding CH Chinaman ROM (Eli/Snooty) to a Bolio pregnant dog named Hobb's Tuffy 1xw. The product of this was Romero's China Girl was then bred back to her sire CH Chinaman ROM (inbreeding) this created Garner's Frisco ROM. Dogs bred off Frisco are known as Frisco dogs/frisco bloodline. It takes more then breeding a few dogs together or a couple generations to establish a bloodline. It takes hardwork, getting a dog good foundation dog to then line/inbred and outcross with. It takes culling the undesirable dogs in an effort to establish the consistency and keep the quality of the line. When you line and inbred for specific traits and cull properly you begin to see the consistent traits and have a high quality of dog. Linebreeding keeps traits in order and inbreeding locks these in even tighter. When inbreeding is done properly you lock out almost all negatives once the line is established. The tight bred dogs are often the best producers have the right breeding for it. Many breeders claim to have their own line. Its sometimes the goal of backyard breeders to create their own line or see their name on a certain number of generations. Although their "line' isn't a line at all, a bloodline certainly is not when you breed and have your name behind dogs. A true bloodline isn't one that doesn't show a continued and uniform type, no matter if you do line or inbreed. Bloodlines are uniformed and take effort to achieve. You will find breeders breeding dogs of certain lines that in no way represent that line in looks, temperament, ect. This means they are producer dogs who no longer fit this line and have been changed. Lines are created and bred to be kept and continued in type, when lines become popular or bred by those who don't have the proper knowledge the integrity of the line is lost. Still others clame to have dogs from a certain line such as Colby or Old Family Red when the dogs have little of this bloodline, and some (OFRN) are just big red nose dogs. Another thing is a dog having a dog in their pedigree one time doesn't make it that line. Many people say their dog is a jeep dog because it has Jeep one time in the 6th generation. Many dogs can be recognized from a certain line on appearance. Such as dogs from the Bolio, Colby or Lonzo line, these dogs have a very distinct look and should be upkept in quality and type.
