hi guys, the pup we kept for my nephews did something to her mouth this morning, i think she was running and playing with a stick in her mouth and fell on it, anyway she has a big gash from the roof of her mouth down to the very back of her throat. im taking her to the vet first thing in the morning, but should i try to get her to eat tonight, she screams whenever she has to open her mouth, and i dont think she will, i have had to force feed her water all day. i dont think her jaw is broken, but it is possible. none of the vets here want to go in on a sunday so they keep telling me she is fine til tomorrow since she is not bleeding, however i worry, because she has thrown up a couple times, and she is drooling very bad......also do you guys know of any pain med i can give her? is it tylenol or aspirin, i know i can give her ibuprofen, (it is what rymadil is), but im not sure how much, i just want to make her as comfortable as possible until morning.

I'm sorry to here that! Sounds bad. I wouldn't feed her if she didn't want to eat, sounds very painful. You might have to feed her food from the blender if its serious. Tylenol and Aspirin I always thought were safe for dogs. You can give her childrens tylenol. Let us know what the vet has to say.

bad news, her jaw is indeed broken, bottom jaw, the top part of it that goes into the skull, the vet (i found a new vet) says it will heal on its own, but she will now probably have a cross bite, which is ok, i wasnt planning to show her, she is my nephews pet. but she is going to be alright, im so glad, she has to eat special food and cannot open her mouth for a while, but it doesnt need to be surgically wired or anything. this vet thinks maybe one of my older dogs grabbed her, i didnt see it happen, but rudy was acting awfully guilty when i ran outside.........just to be on the safe side though, he is now kept separate from the puppies.......it could have been Cisca, and she just got farther away from her in the time it took me to get to the yard. it sux cuz i didnt see it and i dont know for sure who got her, it also could have been an accident when they were trying to play with a big stick.....i just dont know, but some yard changes are in order i think. thank you for worrying with me....lol

I would say keep dogs seperate when unsupervised, thats a golden rule. Its possible she could have got the injury being grabbed. Lucky she is. When my friends dog did that to her younger dog she ripped part of her jaw off and the dog is now fairly submissive, never started and won't do nothing when hit. It was a terrible ordeal and she had to eat food from the blender, I know it was painful. I would say she is very lucky, they can do so much damage especially to a younger dog...glad she is doing alright.
